Blazing trails
Trails take a  leap forward

tasteplumaswineTrails for Plumas County is creating a web friendly master plan for hiking and biking trails to be completed in FY 08 -09. Keep posted.

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship  and the Feather River Land Trust are busy building  new trails and invite you to help! Combine a vacation with some sweaty work among fun folks. Work days will be held at Smith Lake, Nelson Creek to Lakes Basin, and the Maddalena Ranch interpretive trail in Sierra Valley.  For some favorite Plumas trails order our hiking or mountain biking guide.
Calm/Uncrowded
And close to home

Still need a vacation
but not wanting to drive very far?  Plumas County is close by, but feels worlds away.  It's just one hour from Reno, three hours from Sacramento, and 4-5 hours from the Bay Area.

locator mapPlumas County's lakes have plenty of water, so c'mon up and bring  your boat!  Lake Almanor, Bucks, and Antelope are 80-90 percent full. There is good fishing at Lake Davis and Frenchman and the high alpine lakes in the Bucks Lake Wilderness and Lakes Basin Area are remote and refreshing.
Dining out with a twist
In a barn or on a leash

dining pratvilleWhen it comes to eating out, Plumas County has some out-of-the-ordinary options.

Dine with your dog on the deck of Lake Almanor's Prattville Café, which offers special lunches for canines on Thursday, June 26.

Eat out in a barn at Sierra Valley Farms near Beckwourth, offering a summer series of all-organic,  gourmet dinners prepared by area chefs.  Part of the fun of dining out at the well-loved Genesee Store is the scenic drive just getting there.

In the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, bring in your clean catch of the day, and have it prepared by the chef at Packer Lake Lodge. After dinner at Gray Eagle Lodge, you can ask for a s'mores kit and have dessert by campfire.

Cowboy up to Greenhorn Creek Guest Ranch for a Western barbecue on Friday nights, and you can splash in their pool too.
